2024 Tennis Guidebook

2024 TENNIS SEASON

Welcome Home Tennis Playing Members! I hope you had an enjoyable winter away and are looking forward to another summer at your oasis on the mountain. Upon your return, my hope is that you will be the first to see the finishing touches put on your new Cullasaja Tennis Shop and Viewing Platform built where the tennis shed once stood. It should be a beautiful new addition to the tennis program that we are all sure to fully enjoy. In preparation for the 2024 Season, we have created a fun, robust calendar with a mix of competitive and social tennis events. Please flip through this tennis guidebook and use it as a reference for signing up for the events. The first event to put on your calendar is the Welcome Home/New Tennis Member event on Friday, June 7th. I encourage anyone interested in playing tennis to join us for this fun social event. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to socialize and play with our newest tennis playing members. Knowing the skill levels of your fellow tennis playing members early in the season can be very helpful when organizing play on the side. I am happy to announce that Joe Sewell and Heather Bell will be returning to assist with tennis instruction, court grooming or someone to hit with. Heather received her USPTA certification over the winter and will continue to assist with tennis instruction via lessons and clinics. Both will be available to hit with or play doubles as needed when schedules allow. Please stop by the courts and say hello to us when you return from your winter homes. If you are new to the Club or to tennis, come see me and we can get you started playing as soon as possible with equipment and/or lessons. If you have gone away from tennis but would like to return, don’t worry, we can quickly get you set up to play with others at or near your skill level. Tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by all! I hope you will pick up a racquet and come see what the Cullasaja Tennis program has to offer. As a reminder, the lower courts are scheduled to be lifted and the upper courts top-dressed the end of April so they will be in perfect shape for the season. Travel back safely and we look forward to seeing you on the courts. All Our Very Best,

CUSTOMS & CULTURES

Tennis Etiquette Excessive noise, racquet throwing, or profanity will not be permitted. To enter and or exit from your assigned court, please use the appropriate walkway and gate, (i.e., do not walk across a neighboring court when it is in use.) Wait for play to stop on an adjacent court before requesting the return of your tennis ball from their court. The only exception would be if you felt they didn't see your ball and it was a danger to someone on their court. Avoid loud talking between changeovers and while playing, so as not to disturb other players. Excessive noise from gadgets such as cell phones, watch notifications, etc. can be very distracting to players. A let should be called immediately when a ball enters your court during play to stop any confusion and or possible injury. If a decision cannot be made on a line call, the call should be "good". Pets Pets are always prohibited from the courts and Pro Shop. Lightning Prediction System “Thor-Guard” The Club is equipped with a lightning prediction system. If you hear a 10-second horn blast, a potential lightning strike may be imminent, and you should seek shelter immediately. Do not rely solely on the horns and if dangerous weather looks imminent, please seek safe shelter away from croquet grounds immediately. If you hear three consecutive 5-second blasts, the conditions have improved and, if you feel safe, continue your outdoor activities. Conduct Unbecoming a Member or Guest Recognizing that Members of the Club hold a wide range of views on several political, social, religious, and other issues and that it is incumbent upon all Members to respect the right of other Members and their guests to hold such views. Engaging in or using rude, vulgar, threatening, harassing, or otherwise offensive or inappropriate behavior that disturbs others, interferes with the planning, or conduct of a Club activity or event, or disturbs the enjoyment of the Club by Members and their invited guests will not be tolerated.
