GOLF UPDATE – CHARLES BEURMANN
Halfway Point The halfway point is upon us, but we still have so many exciting opportunities planned to create 2023 memories! We had amazing weather on July 4 th week and the course was full of friends and family. Flag Day crowned six winners, but no one made it farther than Herb Walter. Herb was able to plant his flag next to the green on hole number one, making him the only one to finish an extra hole. Congratulations, Mr. Walter! Our first Sunday Couples event was held on July 9 th . We had 64 players, but the stellar play from Rick & Georgie Taylor and David

& Linda Stetson was just too much for the rest to handle, including Steve & Sue Mendenhall and E.G. & Marianne Lassiter who finished just ½ shot behind our fearless leaders! Thank you to all who continue to support Sunday Couples. Our Second Saturday Night Shoot Out was a roaring success. We had 14 teams, which is our most ever! Great play was had by all, but Greg Pater, and his guest, Robin Kippenberger, took down a stout field of competitors! On hole eight, their team was in the middle of the fairway and Greg was trying to talk Robin into hitting another club; and Robin said “NO”, I have the club I want! Robin proceeded to stick his wedge shot inside 6 feet which lead to a birdie on the hole. I knew they were going to be too much to handle the rest of the way. This event continues to gain interest, so please don’t forget to sign up as we will be capping the event with 12 teams going forward. The Men’s Invitational was a massive success! The weather wasn’t ideal on Thursday, but we were able to switch our match rotations to 1-2-2 from 2-2-1 so we were able to get the tournament in with good weather. We had Carolina Blue weather on Friday and Saturday despite wet conditions from the 2 inches of rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Tom Nelson and his team did such an amazing job getting the course manicured when weather allowed. Victor & Roger Fransen proved to be too much for the remaining teams, once again, making the three-peat possible! They have now been crowned Champions in 2017, 2020, & 2023. Watch out everyone, 2026 will be here before you know it and Victor & Roger seem to be really hot every three years. I have run this event 10 times and have never seen a more complete putting performance. Roger Fransen made impressive putts on three consecutive holes to ensure victory, including a 30+ foot par putt on 18, complete with a Tiger like fist pump and Roar. Well done men, no one gave it to you; it was earned! See you on the course! Charles Beurmann, Head Golf Professional
