2023 GOLF GUIDEBOOK
2023 GOLF SEASON
Dear Cullasaja Golf Family,
On behalf of the entire Cullasaja Club team, we hope you are excited for the upcoming 2023 Golf Season. I look forward to hearing about your winter months away and how you worked on your game. As always, our #1 priority is making sure you completely enjoy the Cullasaja Club golf experience. To that extent, please review this guidebook and look for the remarkable opportunities to participate in our programs and events this season. The Golf Professional Staff has scheduled a full season of events catering to players of all ages and abilities. Most of all, these events were thoughtfully created with the input of the Golf Committee and WGA with an emphasis of fun and competition. When you return, you will see many golf course improvements that will improve your enjoyment of the course. Our superintendent, Tom Nelson and his staff, with the assistance of Bill Bergin and his incredible team, have done an amazing job of making our course current and improving playability. We believe that the changes made will increase the overall enjoyment for the high handicap player while keeping a challenging course design for our lower handicap players. We can’t wait to hear what you think about the renovated course. As we wait for your arrival, we simultaneously thank you for your support of our Golf Shop and golf programs. We can’t have great experiences without great people, and we are so thankful for all the great Members here at Cullasaja Club. Travel safe as you venture back to Highlands and we look forward to seeing you soon.
All Our Very Best,

CUSTOMS & CULTURES GOLF COURSE & RANGE
Divots on Fairways Cullasaja fairways are bent grass and it is important to always replace your divots. Please fill your divots on fairways. The preferred method for repairing a divot is to replace the grass divots and then place the sand from carts into the divot spot and apply pressure directly above the divot. Leave the sand slightly higher than the surrounding area to help prevent succeeding shots from rolling into the divot spot. Should you deplete your divot sand supply, extra sand bottles are located on holes #6, #10, and #14. Bunkers Please enter bunkers from the low side nearest your ball as maintaining the high sides is difficult and could damage the “bunker guard” understructure. Never exit the high side! After raking, leave the rake near the spot where you found it or place it in the bunker with handle out of the edge. Greens Please repair every ball mark you encounter while on the green. Typically, most balls impact the green at an angle which leaves compacted grass pushed up on one side that exposes a small patch of exposed dirt on the other. Proper green repair practices require a tool or golf tee to punch holes behind the bunched-up grass and then appropriately tap the grass down with a putter. Do not use the tool to dig under a ball mark and leverage the soil upward. Golf Cart Etiquette Please adhere to all course access limitations when notified by golf staff or the sign in the gazebo at the range. Current cart access or path restrictions are posted each morning on the Club Member App under the Golf Section. Carts on Fairways When this is in effect, carts are permitted to drive on the turf. The Club uses wooden posts near the cart paths to denote where golf carts should enter and exit each fairway. Please enter and exit the fairways at these posts. In order to improve the quality of our rough, please keep carts in the fairway at all times other than entering or exiting. If you need to drive beyond the exit post to reach your ball that is ok, we only ask that you please turn back and exit the fairway at the post. This system will allow for better distribution of cart traffic throughout the season. Note, all Par 3’s are always Cart Path Only. Cart Path Only When this is in effect, please stay completely on the path at all times. We ask you please keep all 4 cart tires on the asphalt to not rut the rights-of-way. Handicap flags do not allow you to leave the cart path on cart path only days. Your attention to this important matter is always appreciated so that the course can maintain its beauty.
CUSTOMS & CULTURES GOLF COURSE & RANGE
Course and Practice Facility Dress Code Appropriate golf attire is required for all players while playing the course or practicing at the range. The clothing merchandise carried in the Club’s Golf Shop and featured in golf industry publications is representative of what is expected on the golf course, excluding t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies. Men must wear shirts with collars and sleeves and shirts must be always tucked in. Ladies must wear golf dresses, shirts without collars must have sleeves, shirts with collars can be sleeveless, slacks, golf shorts, and blouses. Golf shorts must be Bermuda-length. Driving Range Complimentary balls and supplies are provided at the Practice Range from May 1st until October 31st. Range balls are not to be removed from the range area and are not to be used on the golf course. Violation of this policy could involve a fine or suspension of Club privileges. Please check the Club app to inquire about practice range hours of operation. During special events, the range opens 30 minutes after the shotgun start. As a general rule, the range is open on the following schedule barring special events or inclement weather:
• Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. • Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. • Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
There is two-way cart traffic on the path between the Golf Shop and the Practice Range. Practicing on the golf course is strictly prohibited. Please check the Member app to determine current range conditions.
Audible Cell Phone / Electronic Communications Policy Members must not engage in or support electronic communication activity that disturbs the peaceful enjoyment of the Club for other Members. Audible use of cell phones/audio media is prohibited in the Clubhouse, Activity Center and on the Golf Course, except for medical emergencies. Areas where audible use of cell phones is permitted are denoted by posted signage and are generally in areas far removed from others and not within audible range of another person. Please use common sense when using audible devices and seek an area away from others to not disturb them at any point. General Do not litter. This includes cigarette, cigar butts and oral tobacco pouches. This also includes beverage containers and broken tees.
Restrooms & Hydration Stations For your convenience, restrooms and ice/water machines are available at the Golf Practice Range (Croquet Pavilion), the Fairway Café, the #7 tee, and the #13 fairway. Golf Etiquette Be ready when it is your turn to play. When you finish playing a hole, leave the green promptly. Search for lost balls within the allotted time. Repair your ball marks. Cullasaja fairways are bent grass and it is important to always replace your divots. First replace your rooted divot then fill in the rest with sand & seed mixture. The correct position on the course is behind the group ahead of you, not in front of the group behind you. Golf Carts In all cases, use of a golf cart is the sole risk of the operator, and each driver of a cart shall assume all risks associated with their guests and others while using a cart. All cart operators shall indemnify and hold harmless the Club, its affiliates, partners, shareholders, directors, officers, employees, representatives and agents from any and all loss, cost, claim, injury, damage or liability sustained. This release and indemnification pertains to all matters arising out of the use of the golf cart including but not limited to physical injury, or any other injury including economic injury, slips or falls Club Tipping Policy Day-to-day tipping for standard services provided by the Cullasaja Club staff is not permitted. These services include bag drop, club cleaning, food and beverage service, golf and tennis lessons, valet, and housekeeping. Pay rates for all staff are fair and consistent with the pay scales we compare to both the private club industry and the local market. Tipping for special services is optional but not expected. These services would include private catered parties, concierge services, cart detailing/maintenance, club repair, shoe cleaning services, massage services and vehicle jump starts/tire inflations, etc. End of Season tipping is permitted World Handicap System “GHIN” and Cap Patrol Cullasaja Club requires established handicaps for all weekly game and tournament participation. It’s the golfer’s responsibility to post ALL acceptable scores and maintain an honest and accurate handicap index. You may post all scores via the GHIN app. Cullasaja Club uses Cap Patrol to monitor Players at Cullasaja. You may download and explore the Cap Patrol App as part of your Golf Membership. All golf members must pay an annual Handicap fee of $40. This fee is charged by the state appointed golf association to maintain your player profile. If you belong to another club your handicap service fee does not travel. You are required to pay a handicap fee to maintain your handicap at each club you belong. Equitable Stroke Control is the max a person can record per hole for handicap. Equitable Stroke Control is NET double bogey for all players. Conduct Unbecoming a Member or Guest Recognizing that Members of the Club hold a wide range of views on several political, social, religious, and other issues and that it is incumbent upon all Members to respect the right of other Members and their guests to hold such views. Engaging in or using rude, vulgar, threatening, harassing, or otherwise offensive or inappropriate behavior that disturbsothers, interferes with the planning, or conduct of a Club activity or event, or disturbs the enjoyment of the Club byMembers and their invited guests will not be tolerated.
Lightning Prediction System “Thor-Guard” The Club is equipped with a lightning prediction system. If you hear a 10-second horn blast, a potential lightning strike may be imminent, and players should seek shelter immediately. Do not rely solely on the horns and if dangerous weather looks imminent, please seek safe shelter immediately. If you hear three consecutive 5-second blasts, the conditions have improved and, if you feel safe, continue your outdoor activities. Rain Check Policy After a player has played their fourth hole and before the 13th hole of an 18-hole round, a 9-hole credit will be given for both cart and green fee. Course Closed Policy The Golf Professional, Golf Course Superintendent, Board of Governors and Green Committee have the authority to close the course or a particular hole any time in order to protect the safety of our Members or the condition of the course. The Starter will denote such areas as will the Member App and potential signage. It is expected that Members and their guest will adhere to any closure of the course or areas of the course. Walking/Jogging/Fishing/ Non-Golf Related Activities on the Course You may walk, jog, fish, on the golf course before 8:30 a.m. and after 7:00 p.m. with advance approval of the Golf Shop, except when the setting up the course or the occurrence of a special event . ‘ Hole in One’ Club The “Hole in One Club” is a club within the club. It is governed with its own set of rules. Members MUST sign a “Hole in One Club” contract to join. Contracts must be signed in advance of any Hole in Ones to receive compensation. Members of the HIO club will be enrolled annually unless directed otherwise. Please contact Head Professional Charles Beurmann if you wish to participate in the HIO club. Golf Cart Repair Services The Club offers golf cart maintenance service to Members who have purchased a previously Club owned golf cart within the last 12 months. If a Member owns a private golf cart and has owned it for a period greater than 12 months, it is no longer serviceable through the Club as it is outside the warranty period.
All other cart owners must obtain their own service/repair arrangements. We recommend using R&R Golf Carts for non-warranty golf cart services and accessories.

Any matches tied after 18 holes will go into extra holes starting on hole #1 and playing until a hole is won. Below are the round start dates and deadlines: If a match is not played by the end of the deadline day, the Golf Shop will flip a coin to determine the winner, who will then advance to the next round. In those instances when scheduling becomes problematic, one or both players may request the Golf Shop to intervene. In this circumstance, if the Golf Shop is unable to schedule the match within the deadline, the Golf Shop will then have the discretion to determine the winner by either coin flip or, in expected rare circumstances, default by one of the players. Round of 32: June 1st – June 30th Sweet Sixteen: July 1st – July 31st Elite Eight: August 1st – August 31st Final Four: September 1st – September 14th Championship: September 15th guidelines in the Golf Operations guidebook.
